» ON THE SOCIAL RADAR:
July and August are two of the busiest months in the valley. Here’s a quick update of some of the items I have on my calendar that you shouldn’t miss.

Tonight (Friday) is the 21st Bravo! Gala, chaired once again by the dynamic duo of Argie Tang and Cathy Stone. The theme this year is Cirque du Bravo, so the evening will be one to remember. There may still be some seats still available, so call the Bravo! offices at 827-4305 to buy your ticket.

The Gore Range Natural Science School is having it’s “Reach for the Peak” gala on August 10 on top of Vail Mountain. The theme is “Haute Couture and Hiking Gear,” so it’s the opportunity to creatively mix your Columbia Hardwear and your Cartier diamonds. The organization is honoring two couples who are very generous in the valley, Argie and Oscar Tang and Molly and Jay Precourt. The evening will be full of surprises, so be sure to not miss it. Call Natalia at Gore Range Natural Science School, (www.gorerange.org) at 827-9725, ext. 30 for tickets.

Of course, the Vail International Dance Festival is just around the corner (www.vaildance.org) and there’s still plenty of time to grab your lawn chair and go see the Philadelphia Symphony or New York Philharmonic (www.vailmusicfestival.org).

Colorado Footwear owners Sally and Steve Rosenthal stepped up in June to help out The Heuga Center for Multiple Sclerosis.

For the third year, the couple brought their excess inventory to the International Bridge in Vail and sold it for 50 to 70 percent off retail. One hundred percent of the proceeds were donated to the Edwards-based Heuga Center.

Named “The Shoe Sale with Soul,” Sally said the sale is just a small step towards helping improve the lives of people living with MS.

“We decided to get involved after hearing about The Heuga Center’s individualized approach to teaching people with MS how to manage this unpredictable disease,” she said. “The money raised by the sale goes to fund scholarships for participants of the Center’s programs. Last year’s sale raised over $9,000 and this year we expect to top $12,000. And the people buying the shoes really get amazing deals.”

For those in the know, bid deals were to be had on some top designers, including Steve Madden, Puma, Cole Haan, Børn, Pikolinos, and some exclusive Italian Colorado Footwear brands. The sale raised more than $6,000 for the Center's health and wellness programs for people facing the challenges of living with multiple sclerosis.

Colorado Footwear has two locations, one on Gore Creek Drive in Vail and one by the covered bridge in Beaver Creek.

For more information, contact the The Heuga Center at 970.926.1290 or Colorado Footwear at 970.476.3130, or visit it’s Web site at www.heuga.org.
